WHAT IS IT ALL ABOUT?
VEDIC ASTROLOGY or jyotish shastra owes its origins to the investigation and development in the Vedic age by maharishis such as Kalidasa Kalyan Varma, Varaha Mihira, Maharishi Parashar, Aryabhatta and others.
This is an ancient Indian science dating back to some 4000 years before, with the objective of explaining planetary positions and motions with respect to time and the effect they have on human life, seasons, agricultural yield, outcome of wars and such things.
During early Vedic period, Vedic astrology took into consideration only the movement of planets in conjunction with the stars. In the later Vedic period, zodiac signs were also included.
FACTS ABOUT VEDIC ASTROLOGY
Vedic astrology believes that there are nine planets, twenty seven constellations that go on to create the twelve zodiac signs, and twelve houses. Each of the twelve houses and planets represents some aspect of the life of an individual. The twelve signs correspond to the twelve houses and the nine planets are distributed in the different houses depending on the time an individual is born.
A horoscope is an astrologer’s diagram or a visual representation of the relative positions of stars, planets and such heavenly bodies and the forecast of events based on these astrological calculations. Horoscope is also called a birth or natal chart.
A person’s birth chart is prepared on the basis of the time he was born in a particular calendar year and the corresponding position of the stars at that time in the place of your birth. Birth/astrological charts can be utilized to calculate personal natal charts and what it means for that person.
The nine planets of Vedic astrology are Saturn, Venus, Jupiter, Mars, the moon, the sun and two shadowy celestial bodies called Ketu(tail of the dragon) and Rahu(head of the dragon). The twenty seven constellations range from REVATHY to ASWINI. The 12 zodiacs are the same as their western counterparts.
